RMIT Activator's 12-week pre-accelerator program helps a cohort of passionate founders to propel their startups by refining customer insights and progressing their startups towards product-market fit.

This year, LaunchHUB is looking to support and advance early stage startups that address the key theme of social impact. If your venture aims to make the world a better place - we want you!

Through hybrid online and in-person delivery, LaunchHUB is entirely free and provides participants with a combined value of $200K worth of resources and services in the form of expert coaching, credits and innovative learning. You'll also join a supportive community of founders to share knowledge and experiences.

On reaching key program milestones, participants will gain the opportunity to pitch for a $2.5K grant. You'll also have the opportunity to pitch for further competitive funding at the end of the year.

What can you expect from the program?

Facilitated by our Lead Program Coach, our weekly accountability stand-ups will keep you on track to achieve your goals, whilst also connecting you with your fellow cohort.

Learn key knowledge from experts in the startup ecosystem on how to work towards achieving product-market fit. These sessions will inspire and motivate you to sustainably grow your venture. You can expect to learn about the following topics:

  • Develop an understanding of your customer
  • Clearly define and test your value proposition
  • Determine the size, attractiveness and depth of the market
  • Develop a proof of concept, prototype and/or MVPs
  • Begin to formulate a viable business model that can achieve sustainable impact 1-on-1
  • How to clearly pitch your business

Throughout LaunchHUB you'll have access to our co-working space, located in the heart of Melbourne. This is the perfect place to work from, in an inspiring location surrounded by like-minded founders. This is an optional resource to take advantage of throughout the program.

You'll meet with our program coaches each week to keep you on track and tackle any business challenges that you’re facing - they’ll be the perfect sounding board for your business!

During LaunchHUB you’ll join a cohort of social-impact led founders, as well as become a member of our broader Activator startup community. With complimentary community membership, you'll gain access to our valuable network, community events, resources and more. We can’t wait to see you grow, thrive and give-back to our community.

What we're looking for

  • Startup founders who are leveraging technology and global connectedness to drive positive social impact in the world.
  • A driven and purposeful team with at least one committed founder able to attend all program elements throughout the 12 weeks.
  • An understanding of market opportunity (measured through the articulation of market size, trends, existing business models, total addressable market)
  • Identifiable problem and solution (clearly defined problem statement and a well thought out solution to address the problem)
  • Early customer validation (evidence of early testing with real customers and users, with feedback and insights)
  • A curious mindset and a willingness to ask questions, take on feedback and support the other founders to succeed.’
  • A willingness to contribute and give back to the broader Activator community
  • Bonus points if you have demonstrated technical capabilities and clearly understand your IP and patent situation.

FAQs

We’re excited to bring you our first hybrid program combining both in person and online elements! The program starts with the first three weeks online, kicking off with Induction Day on Mon 10 May.

Weeks four and eight will be conducted in person in order to connect you with your cohort, coaches and the Activator community. These sessions will be held at our RMIT Activator Melbourne co-working space and it’s imperative that you are there in person. All other weeks will be conducted online via Zoom, supported by additional technology. There will also be an optional Welcome Drinks in Melbourne during week one to connect with the cohort.

The essential in-person program dates are Week four: Mon 31 May - Tues 1 June and Week eight: Mon 28 June – Tues 29 June, running in Melbourne at our RMIT Activator co-working space. The optional welcome drinks is Thursday 13 May.

1-1 coaching can either be run online or in person throughout the program.

Participant safety is our top priority. We will monitor restrictions carefully throughout the program to ensure we operate in line with the University’s approach and government guidelines. If restrictions change throughout the program, we will shift our in-person session to online.

Yes. This program will run for 12 weeks and has a focus on social impact led startup founders. We’re also conscious that founders across Victoria are in need of support to thrive in the current environment so we’ve opened up this opportunity to all, even if you are not affiliated with RMIT.

We are looking for startups who are leveraging technology and global connectedness to drive positive social impact in the world. This program is free! The university is committed to developing an entrepreneurial culture and supporting enterprise development amongst the Activator community.

All selected founders are expected to attend our weekly Stand-ups (Mondays @ 10-11:30am), Growth Sessions (Tuesdays @ 10-11:30am) and one hour of coaching per week (various times). Each week involves a 4.5 hour commitment.

Founders get the most value from the program through active participation in all program sessions. We will be sharing the full program calendar once you are successful with your application so you can safely book the time on your own calendar.

RMIT Activator does NOT claim any IP rights in respect of idea or startup. However, RMIT staff applying for LaunchHUB need to consult with RMIT Research and Innovation given that RMIT has ownership of intellectual property created by staff members in the course of their employment.

LaunchHUB in itself is an investment from the university that is worth $218,000 in support and resources.

However for our 10th program we will be providing the opportunity for teams to pitch for a $2.5K grant once they have reached key milestones in week 8 of the program. Each team will also have the opportunity to pitch for further competitive funding at the end of the year.

We are also more than happy to help with our knowledge and network to connect teams with other funding opportunities if necessary.

We are currently planning our co-working space re-opening. You’ll be able to access the space when the program starts (from May 10). We will have a desk booking system in place to ensure everyone has equal access and that we abide by our capacity limits and social distancing measures.

You can complete the online sections of the program from anywhere, however you must be in Melbourne for Weeks 4 and 8 for the in person sessions. So technically you can be based anyway for the online parts but our aim is to really connect you to our community, cohort and coaches in person!
