I think programs like this celebrate the importance of vocational education

Xenia Girdler:
Vocational education is a very important and valuable education process.
And for people such as the students that graduated today to be able to share their experience and expertise - in this setting underpin by two-way learning, I think is phenomenally important and needs to be recognised.

David Haward: This has probably been one of the best weeks of my academic career. It’s been a truly inspirational experience. The thing that I think is fantastic from the point of view from RMIT is that it’s not a high prestige PhD program; it’s not an expensive master’s program, this is the delivery of a program at a vocational level. We’ve listened to what the people need and what the industry need to make sure we deliver industry relevant education in a culturally sensitive context; Dealing with some of the most disadvantaged people on earth. It’s been a brilliant experience and certainly one that will stay with me for a very long time.

Chris Walters:
The one thing about Northern Territory particularly in the area of health that these students work in is the lack of resources. We are spoilt for choice in Melbourne, we have a range of choices that we can work collaboratively wit, we can refer to. That’s certainly not the case here in the Northern Territory. I felt extremely proud that I had just a small part in the process and seeing the smile on those students’ children’s faces has made it so worth-while.

Melissa May: There’s been a lot of knowledge past around the table and it’s been really good to be able to work collectively with other organisations and learn about different styles of doing things. I think as a group we got along really well with the other organisations as well. We spent a lot of time laughing and joking – it was a really nice atmosphere.
