Hi, my name is Catherine Bakes. I work at Epping Views Kindergarten and I have worked here for two years. So we have up to ten RMIT students undertaking the Bachelor of Early Childhood education placement per year.
When RMIT students come to our kindergarten setting, they are really organised, professional and ready to learn. They have lots of prior knowledge on the industries that they can bring to the kindergarten and use that.
To be a teacher I believe you need to be passionate about what you are doing, and somebody that is friendly, caring and approachable for the children.
Placements are important so students can gain knowledge and work out on the teacher they would like to become. Some of the things to consider when organising your placement is to work overseas, working with new people where you can learn new things and working in different age groups.
Before starting your placement is important to come and meet your teacher and the students you be working with so you feel comfortable and confident in the environment you be doing placement.
