Narrator Taemin Kim:
Kids make the Message uses design to help children, schools and environmental education programs engage with the issues of protecting local endangered species.
[Visuals]
Scenes of a parent holding a small child’s hand while viewing the seals swim underwater.
Narrator Taemin Kim:
Children’s voices deserve to be listened to, yet they are typically unable to participate in advocacy and policy making.
[Visuals]
School groups at the zoo observing and learning about different animal species.
Narrator Taemin Kim:
The campaigning dimension of this project aims to provide those who can influence change with an additional set of voices. With more voices they can more effectively and powerfully communicate the need for the conservation of environmental biodiversity.
[Visuals]
Various sheets of paper titled with animal names and instructions for making a cardboard replica.
Narrator Taemin Kim:
This is an opportunity in which Kids make the Message.
[Visuals] Taemin providing instructions on how to fold the paper and create the animals.
Narrator Taemin Kim:
Kids make the Message is developed on the premise that attitudes and awareness towards conservation can be elevated by carefully designed learning experiences.

Close up shots of the orange bellied parrot, the southern Cooroboree Frog, the Tasmanian Devil and the Mountain Pygmy Possum at the zoo.
Narrator Taemin Kim:
Participants are provided with a craft activity to create 3D cardboard models representing eight critically endangered Australian species, including the Orange Bellied Parrot, the Southern Cooroboree Frog, the Tasmanian Devil and the Mountain Pygmy Possum.
[Visuals]
Scenes of kids cutting cardboard and folding cardboard to create replicas of the endangered animals.
Narrator Taemin Kim:
Through this playful learning activity, kids can learn about each animal, their natural habitat, why they are endangered, and how to protect them.
Combining “glue and paper” craft with digital technology, such as the website, gives children a platform to share their experiences and raise awareness about the importance of conservation in a fun and playful way.

Through these activities, children and schools can use the materials they create to conduct a visual campaign via numerous social media channels, calling on other groups and individuals to take positive conservation actions.
