Anar Baasanbat

TEXT ON SCREEN:            RMIT University Presents

AUDIO:                               Sound of running trams. Church bell rings. Parade drums rolling.

VISUAL:                             Flinders Street railway station. Running tram. People lining the street watching the lion dance. A banner showing Buddha’s Day and Multicultural Festival.

ANAR SPEAKS:                  Every culture in every country is different. When you move to a new city, it speaks to you.

AUDIO:                               Rhythmic sound of drums and other parade instrument.

VISUAL:                              A lady in a brown coat is walking with her family through the festival on Federation Square.

ANAR SPEAKS:                  I love exploring Melbourne with my family.

AUDIO:                               Musical instrument playing.

VISUAL:                             The family is seen having tea around the open-air table of a tea ceremony workshop at the festival. The lady in brown sips her tea.

ANAR SPEAKS:                 There is always something new to experience, something new to try. [Chuckles].

TEXT ON SCREEN:           Anar Baasanbat: VCE (Year 12) Student at RMIT University

VISUAL:                             The lady in the brown coat is standing in the middle of the Square with food stalls in the background. She is Anar Baasanbat. She enters a noodle shop and orders a bowl of noodles.

ANAR SPEAKS:                  My name is Anar Baasanbat. I’m from Mongolia and I’m studying VCE at RMIT.

AUDIO:                               Musical instrument playing.

VISUAL:                              Anar is seen working with the cash register and interacting with customers at a café. She prepares the order and serves it to her waiting customer.

ANAR SPEAKS:                  I got my first part time job here in Melbourne. I learned so many things: how to communicate with customers, how to manage my time and how to multitask. I grew a lot through that experience. Yeah [Laughs].

AUDIO:                               Musical instrument playing.

VISUAL:                               Anar walks toward an RMIT through the City Campus.

ANAR SPEAKS:                  The best part about studying VCE at RMIT is that you can pick a range of subjects.

VISUAL:                              Camera focuses on Anar’s side view as she continues to walk towards RMIT. She carries a drawing pad on her right hand.

                                            She opens the pages of the pad and scribbles “DESIGN PROCESS”. She is in a classroom with the teacher writing “DESIGN PROCESS” on the whiteboard.

ANAR SPEAKS:                  I’m learning about accounting, business, and also art and design. In visual and communication design, we explore the entire design process.

VISUAL:                              Anar interacts with her classmates and friends. She reads a book on Art and Design and sketches her own art and design projects, experimenting on colours and various designs.

ANAR SPEAKS:                  I’m really passionate about using colour to explore traditions and culture.

VISUAL:                              Anar is seen walking along the beach with colourful beach houses in the background.

ANAR SPEAKS:                  Studying VCE at RMIT has opened my eyes to different forms of art and communication.

VISUAL:                              Anar is seen spreading her picnic blanket and shown sketching again with colours.         

ANAR SPEAKS:                  To design our painting, you don’t need any words. You can just speak with pictures.

[Chuckles]

VISUAL:                              Anar continues to paint the beach view on her sketch pad, and signs her name on it. Aerial shots of the ocean heading deeper into the sea.

ANAR SPEAKS:                  I think studying overseas I can find what I’m really good at

                                            and what I can do in the world.

AUDIO:                               Instrumental music ends.

VISUAL:                             Camera focuses on the sea.

AUDIO:                              Sound of the waves
