Chaplaincy
RMIT’s multifaith Chaplaincy service aims to provide spiritual and pastoral care for students and staff.
Hi, I’m Alae the Senior Chaplain of RMIT’s Chaplaincy team.
RMIT’s multifaith Chaplaincy service aims to provide spiritual and pastoral care for students and staff.
We do this by offering support that comprehends the spiritual and religious needs of students and staff and by working to overcome isolation by connecting people to broader faith, spirituality and cultural communities.
The Chaplaincy team can support students and staff if they're experiencing stresses related to their studies, work or life. We may talk through issues if they want a confidential listening ear but don't necessarily want to seek counselling. This support will always be careful to acknowledge the faith or spiritual values of the individual.
Our service is inclusive of all faiths, cultures, genders and sexualities. We also try to provide support specifically tailored to as many different faith or cultural groups as possible. However, students and staff don’t need to have a traditional religious or faith affiliation to access our services.
Chaplaincy also provides key spiritual and wellbeing services like
- leading Friday prayer for Muslim students and staff,
- providing guided meditation
- offering opportunities and space for prayer and reflection
- organising memorial services for students and staff who have passed away
- or to organise services of acknowledgement and reflection in times of death and distressing circumstances
Students and staff can access Chaplaincy at all campuses by contacting us directly through phone, email or social media, and students can submit a query through RMIT Connect. Chaplains are available for drop-in consultation with staff and students five days a week at the RMIT city campus but appointments ahead of time are preferable because chaplain hours can vary. We have administrative and reception support five days a week during business hours.
