Element 6: 'Canvas in this course' page

Element number Six.

In this video we're going to show you how to update your 'Canvas in this course' page.

So from your 'Welcome and Orientation' module navigate to the 'Canvas in this course' page and click on it. Once you're in the page at the top right-hand corner click the 'Edit' button. The kind of information you want to add into this page is how students will be using canvas in the course. Is the course blended? Is it largely face to face? Will you be providing materials online for them to use? Maybe some readings before they come to class. This is the space that you want to add all that information into and let the students know what they need to do and the relationship between Canvas and any other learning locations in the course.

So edit the text into your rich text editor. If your template has any extra text already there make sure you go through it and delete any information that isn't relevant to you. Or amend any information to make it more relevant to your course. When you're happy with all your changes, scroll to the bottom and press 'Save'.

Video player instructions

The following instructions will assist you to control the video player using the keyboard.

Starting and stopping the video

  1. Use the Tab or Shift + Tab keyboard combination to navigate the video player controls.
  2. Navigate to the Play button using the Tab or Shift + Tab keyboard combination.
  3. Press the Spacebar or Enter key to toggle between play and pause.

Closed captions

  1. Navigate to the closed captions button using the Tab or Shift + Tab keyboard combination.
  2. Press the Spacebar or Enter key to open the closed captions menu.
  3. Navigate to the preferred close captions option using the Tab or Shift + Tab keyboard combination.
  4. Press the Spacebar or Enter key to activate the close caption option.

Volume

  1. Navigate to the volume slider using the Tab or Shift + Tab keyboard combination.
  2. Press the left or right arrow to decrease and increase the volume.

Full screen

  1. Navigate to the full screen button using the Tab or Shift + Tab keyboard combination.
  2. Press the Spacebar or Enter key to toggle between full screen video and normal size.
