Mute/unmute grades
Speaker: Kim Flowers
In this video we are going to show you how to mute and unmute grades. By default Canvas allows students to see grades as soon as the instructor has graded the assignment. Grades, however, should be released to all students at the same time. You may also like to determine a time to release grades to students outside of class hours.
To mute an assignment open up grades from the course navigation menu.
Each assignment is shown in the sheet, and each has a number of options available at the top of the assignment column.
These options are accessible when you hover the mouse over the assignment column, and an arrow will appear at the bottom right hand corner of the table header.
Click the arrow and the drop-down list of options will appear.
One of these options is mute assignment.
A confirmation screen will pop up reminding you that the students will not receive any notifications for this assessment, while it is muted.
Select mute assignment to confirm.
Once an assignment has been muted a bell with a line through it will appear in the top left-hand corner of the table header.
As you grade the assignment the scores provided will not be seen by students until the assessment has been unmuted. When all grades have been completed and you're ready were to release the grades to your students, then you can unmute the assignment columns to release the grades. You can do this in the same manner as muting the assignment.
And that's how you mute and unmute assignments in Canvas.
