Using Turnitin assignments in SpeedGrader
Speaker 1:
Hi, my name is Kim. In this video, we will show you how to create an assignment using the Turnitin tool for originality checking, integrated with the Canvas SpeedGrader for grading or marking. This will enable you and your students to receive the Turnitin originality report, which is then displayed in SpeedGrader, allowing you to use the features of the Canvas rubrics. I'm going to walk you through the three step process of creating an assignment, adding a rubric, and then integrating Turnitin. In your course create an assignment as normal. Under the submission type select no submission. Then save the assignment. On the assignment page create your rubric by selecting the and rubric button near the bottom of the page. In the options underneath rubric, you must select use this rubric for assignment grading. This will enable you to grade in the Canvas SpeedGrader.
Speaker 1:
When completed click create rubric. You then need to go back into the assignment by clicking the edit button at the top right hand corner of your screen. In the submission type, select the external tool. This will display a URL request for Turnitin. Click on the find button, select Turnitin from the list of available tools by clicking on the name. Then click select. Once you're done, save the assignment. Now you've set up the Canvas portion of your assignment. You will now need to confirm the Turnitin settings. If you don't complete the Turnitin step students cannot access the assignment even once the assignment is published in Canvas. To complete this, you should now see Turnitin as your assignment. Select Turnitin settings. Information you have already provided to Canvas such as the due date and points allocated to the assignment will be here so you will not need to fill these out again.
Speaker 1:
Take the time to check the optional settings, specifically the submission settings, such as allowing late submissions and generating report settings. When you're ready, select submit. Once you've done that your Turnitin Canvas assignment is created and ready for publishing. At the time of marking click on the SpeedGrader in the top right hand corner of the assessment page. SpeedGrader will display the student's submission in the viewing window and show the status of the originality report in the sidebar. To view the detailed originality report, click the file name next to the originality status icon. It will open up a second window displaying the Turnitin tool. When you're ready to grade or mark, close the window and return to the Canvas SpeedGrader page. For more information about managing Turnitin assignments in Canvas please view the extra resources below the video. Thanks for watching.
