VE assessments: introduction
Hello this series of short videos is being designed to demonstrate the mechanics of using canvas assignments and rubrics to assess your students work. They'll show you how to access and use the rubrics that are sets competency and those that allow you to provide feedback for grading currently decisions about grading are made at a program level and practices varied across RMIT.
Work is being done in 2018 around developing guidelines for consistent practice in grading and the rubrics in canvas will be adapted to support this work. In the meantime please be aware that the canvas assignment rubrics have been created as an option to assist your assessment needs.
You do not have to use them at this time. They'll be developed further and issues such as numbers being visible to students will be addressed as RMIT continues its customization of canvas to suit its needs.
If you prefer you can use the marking guide provided in the ve assessment tools on the VE essential site to assess for competency and to continue to use your programs preferred rubrics for grading for example those from Turnitin or paper-based rubrics.
