I should have done it when I finished year twelve (giggle). Um, but coming back to study I was, I was working, I had children, and this was the best fit for me in terms of being able to study after hours. It fitted in around the other aspects of my life and was flexible.

Ms Jacki Holland: At the moment I’m volunteering at AED Legal Centre. They’re an organisation proving support, advocacy and um, legal representation for clients with a disability, who’ve been, been discriminated against in um, the workplace, or in training or education. Um, so in though, in my role there I’m supporting the lawyer, or the lawyers to, um, prepare a lot of legal documentation. We, you know, I go along and attend conciliations, mediations and hearings.

Ms Jacki Holland: One of the things I really got out of this course that I think I may not have got at another institution is a lot of really practical experience. Um, a lot of our assessments were simulating the types of work that you’d have to do in the legal profession so I think I have a reasonable grasp of, of what a legal professional does.

Ms Jacki Holland: We’ve picked up how to write some of those basic documents and how to stand up in a court and present with confidence and um and I think that’s something that RMIT has done really well with the Juris Doctor Program.
