Mr Joseph Pinkard (Graduate, Diploma of Business Administration, RMIT University):
I was, I was working in a different job and I was made redundant. I, yeah, I had a desire to work in a certain field, and as in a kind of entry-level administration position. And on all the job advertisements it would say ‘minimum tertiary requirement’ was that you had a Cert IV or a Diploma of Business Administration, as, a, an absolute minimum.

Mr Joseph Pinkard: RMIT’s course was offered as a blended program. So that meant that I was able to still work and but then do a part of the course on-line. I really liked the fact that a lot of our assessment was based around a group project. So we were working on an e-conference, which we called the pot-plant-plan e-conference. And the idea of what that was to have was, a, a social focus but then also work on this e-conference. So, we looked at the themes of community and social inclusions.

Mr Joseph Pinkard: Um and so we also decided to raise money for the Australian Red Cross.

Mr Joseph Pinkard: So part of the Diploma of Business Administration was a work placement. A lot of students were working at the time so they were able to use their current, jobs, for that work placement. But I didn't have a job in an administrative area at that time.

Mr Joseph Pinkard: And so lecturers helped me find a job placement at the end of my course. And I found that really affirming and encouraging, to kind of, yeah, consolidate the things that I’d leant in theory in a kind of a real-world situation.
