Anh Pham is a PhD researcher in International Education at RMIT University. Anh’s time at RMIT has brought her to academic independence with the help of her supervisor.

ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: In my village, over 90% are farmers.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: In the kitchen, her husband is frying spring rolls and flipping it using chopsticks. The camera focuses on the side view of his face as he continues frying the rolls. ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: Then the only things that they could do to survive is going to the field, working hard, very hard.

ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: My parents, they just have only one dream, that we are educated and we can avoid the difficult life that they have been through.

ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: My name is Anh Pham, from Vietnam, doing PhD focus on International Education.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: The lady is Anh Pham. Anh continues walking through the stairs of the State Library and enters the library.
AUDIO: Background instrumental music continues.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Shelves of books are being shown followed by a low angle shot of the library’s entrance, showing the La Trobe Reading Room of the library. Anh continues walking, enters the reading room, finds her seat and places her books on the table, books with the following titles: Educating for Global Citizenship, Education in Vietnam, Internationalizing Higher Education.
ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: The final objectives of my research is looking at the abilities of international student.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: An opened laptop is on the table and in front of Anh. Anh is reading a book, inserts her pen as marker and closes the book.
ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: By doing PhD, I will have a chance to dig deeply inside the topic that I really want to know.

ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: RMIT is the right destination for me to do my PhD.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Anh stands in front of an office and a man wearing glasses opens the glass door. Anh enters the office. The man is her supervisor. He looks through a shelf of books and picks books from the shelf. The supervisor brings the books to Anh who then scans through the contents of one of the books as the supervisor talks to her.
ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: My supervisor is the key author in the field. He has strategies to help me to face difficulties by myself, and then I can be ready for my career.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Anh is looking through a huge shelf of books and chooses books and left with the shelf with books.
ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: PhD journey is, it actually a journey of academic independence.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Wide view of the library’s facade. Anh walks out of the library with two friends and later dines and enjoys some good time with three friends in a restaurant.
ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: What I enjoy most, studying in Melbourne is we walk just five minutes then we can enjoy very multicultural food. When I was with my PhD friends, I feel supported. I'm really part of a community here in Melbourne.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Anh and her three friends are now standing on the side walk, enjoying their conversation. Camera focuses on the traffic light.

VISUAL DESCRIPTION: A view of the pedestrian light is being shown on screen. Anh walks with two international students and helps the two get directions in the RMIT campus and guides them.
ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: When I first came to Melbourne, one of the first thing, I started volunteering to help international students and migrants.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: A low angle interior shot of Melbourne Central. Anh is still assisting the two international students.
ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: I'm happy that I can be a bit of value.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Anh is driving her car. Anh is home with her family, her husband and their daughter. The family time is having fun playing a game of Mahjong.
ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: The challenge of bringing the whole family with me to Australia is how I can maintain family life, and also study life.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Posterior shot of Anh with her husband as they walk into the school gym to watch their daughter who is practising a Vietnamese cultural dance with other students.
ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: My family, we still can support each other.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Anh’s daughter and schoolmates perform their traditional Vietnamese dance while their proud parents are watching and clapping hands for them. Anh’s husband happily takes a picture of their daughter as she performs on stage.
ANH PHAM VOICE OVER: We are happy because our daughter, it seems like she can find her own identity here in the community that nurture her talents.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Parents, including Anh and her husband, are clapping hands for their children’s graceful performance.
