TEXT ON SCREEN: PRIDE MENTORING PROGRAM. RMIT logo
AUDIO: Ambient music
MARC MANALO (ACCENTURE) SPEAKS: The thing that interested me in helping students is that I want to make it
easier for the younger members of the LGBTI community as they move onto the corporate world
LINETTE HARRIOTT (CONSULTANT – SOCIAL JUSTICE) SPEAKS: I was keen to be involved in the mentoring program
because I think it’s really important that students from lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer
backgrounds have the possibility to achieve as much as they can achieve, to be the best they can be.
GREG ADKINS (ANTI-VIOLENCE PROJECT OF VICTORIA) SPEAKS: I mean I see things in the different areas I’m working
in that might be of interest or beneficial to my mentee and that becomes part of the conversation.
DENYS OLIVEIRA (ACCENTURE) SPEAKS: It’s knowledge that in a certain means I didn’t even know I had.
KATHRYN-ANN NORDEN (ADVOCATE) SPEAKS: When I first heard about this mentoring program, I actually got really
excited for the opportunity for somebody at that stage of their career and that stage of their life, to get guidance
from someone who’s been there.
DENYS OLIVEIRA SPEAKS: I usually meet my mentees once a month at our office in central Melbourne
MARC MANALO SPEAKS: My student mentee is actually from a very conservative Asian country, my knowledge
coming from a conservative Asian country is one of the factors that made it really rewarding.
LINETTE HARRIOTT SPEAKS: It made me feel fantastic, the involvement in the whole program has made me feel
fantastic, it’s been really a lovely experience.
KATHRYN-ANN NORDEN SPEAKS: I’ve actually gotten a lot out of it, it makes me remember and I think it’s important
to remember that you haven’t always been where you are now in your life and you haven’t always been as
comfortable with yourself as you might be now.
GREG ADKINS SPEAKS: I think it’s a worthwhile experience and I think it’s one where we’re very lucky to have so
many students that are out and are prepared to come forward about their sexuality and join a pride program
MARC MANALO SPEAKS: It’s like having another friend who you can just speak to and to see through their eyes that,
ah this is how the younger generation acts now days and these are the kinds of issues that they are facing.
LINETTE HARRIOTT SPEAKS: I would highly recommend being involved as a mentor in this program or as a mentee
in this program. The mentoring has been great, I’ve really learnt a lot and got a lot out of it, it’s been a lovely
experience.
KATHRYN-ANN NORDEN SPEAKS: Give it a shot, it’s an hour every few weeks, you’ve got nothing to lose.
MARC MANALO SPEAKS: It’s definitely rewarding and it’s always nice to help someone out and who now you see
you might be mentoring the next CEO of a company like apple or something like that.
