TEXT ON SCREEN: RMIT University Presents
VISUAL DESCRITPION: Melbourne Yarra river view, buildings, and flying birds.
AUDIO: Sound of chirping birds in background.
SHENG AN LIM VOICE OVER: Like everything else, we are alive because of radiation.
AUDIO: Background instrumental music.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Awesome view of Melbourne buildings, Australian palm trees, floating air balloons, and the sun rising. A man wearing eyeglasses walks on a bridge, towards the railings and looks up the sky.
SHENG AN LIM VOICE OVER: Radiation - it's everywhere, so we are exposed to it everyday, just like the sunlight.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: The man takes out from his pocket a crystal like rectangular prism, raises it up to eye level, and stares through it.
SHENG AN LIM VOICE OVER: In radiation therapy, we use a specific type of radiation called ionising radiation to cure cancer.
TEXT ON SCREEN: SHENG AN LIM – Radiation Therapy Student at RMIT University
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: The man continues to walk along the pedestrian pathway of the bridge as a biking man passed by him.
SHENG AN LIM VOICE OVER: My name is Sheng An Lim, I am from Singapore, and I did my Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Radiations) at RMIT.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: The man is Sheng An Lim. He walks toward RMIT’s Bundoora Campus. He enters the campus and what follows is a beautiful scenery of the campus.
SHENG AN LIM VOICE OVER: What I like most about Bundoora campus is the serenity, the scenery. It's a good break from a fast-paced country like Singapore.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Lim enters the Radiation Therapy laboratory and tries on an RMIT technology that will enable him to visualise a radiation therapy machine.
SHENG AN LIM VOICE OVER: The technology at RMIT - it's pretty advanced. And it's good to be able to visualise the clinical settings without a real machine there.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Lim walks towards the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre and attends to a lady patient. He leads and helps the patient to the radiation room and operates the radiation machine under supervision. After performing the medical radiation, he assists his patient and leads her out of the radiation room.
SHENG AN LIM VOICE OVER: As part of the bachelor at RMIT, I got to go on placement at different radiotherapy centre. We are allowed to do different procedures under close supervision, and I found that medical radiation was really the career for me, because I liked the interaction between my patients, and I just loved the job.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Lim reenters RMIT’s Bundoora Campus and meets with his supervisors, a male and female lecturer.
SHENG AN LIM VOICE OVER: I decided to continue honours after my bachelor at RMIT, because it gives me more options in my career.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Lim is in a conference room with his supervisors to discuss his research using a chemical based prototype or model.
SHENG AN LIM VOICE OVER: So, my biggest challenge for my honours was that the radiation measuring device came from a chemistry background. My supervisors educated me and guided me through my honours project, so that in the future I will be able to contribute to ensure the safety of the patient during the radiotherapy treatment.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: A view of the beach and of green hills and mountains by the road side. A traveler in a car traverses the Great Ocean Road, Victoria.
SHENG AN LIM VOICE OVER: Studying overseas you are in a different environment. Other than trying to keep up with the academic programs, you are also so much more independent.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Lim is in a mall with two ladies and orders takeout food from Fish and Chips. Then he is with the two ladies enjoying their company; eating their take-out food as they parked their car along the road by the beach.
SHENG AN LIM VOICE OVER: You also gain other knowledge in terms of culture. And the food - I love food, and there were many different types of food that I tried in Australia.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Lim and friends are in the car with Lim on the driver’s seat. His friends are seated at the back seat still eating their takeout food. They stop by the beach and are having some fun playing and taking pictures.
SHENG AN LIM VOICE OVER: I love travelling because of the different places, but most important: the different people that we meet. I've made so many different friends from all over the world.
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Lim and his two lady friends are standing with their feet on the sea as they gaze at the golden sunset.
SHENG AN LIM VOICE OVER: Those are the experience that I really cherish.
AUDIO: Background instrumental music fades to end.
