Hi, my name is Nick Reynolds, and I'm the Program Coordinator Of Vocational Business Education, Financial and Legal Services here at RMIT. I've been a program coordinator of these programs for one year. Today, I'm going to tell you a bit about RMIT suite of vocational, financial, and accounting programs. I'll explain the key learning outcomes of each program, the structure of the programs, and the kinds of projects you can expect to work on as a student. It is my privilege to be a part of the community at RMIT, and I'd love to welcome you to one of our programs.

Before I get started, I'd like to acknowledge the people of Woiwurrung and Boon wurrung language groups of the Eastern Kulin Nations on whose unceded lands we conduct the business of the university. RMIT respectfully acknowledges their ancestors and elders past, present and emerging, and while we conduct our work remotely, I want to pay my respect to the wider unceded lands of this nation.

Our Vocational Accounting and Financial Planning programs are developed with industry in mind, and RMIT provides practice-based and industry connected studies in the areas of vocational accounting and financial planning. Invest in your future today, and graduate job-ready with connections in the financial services and accounting industries through these programs, the Advanced Diploma of Accounting, and our Diploma of Financial Planning.

The pathway overview for the accounting program commences with a Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, moving on to a Diploma of Accounting. From there, to an Advanced Diploma of Accounting, and finally with a bachelor's degree. Pathway for our financial planning program commences with the Diploma of Financial Planning, which is a one year program, moving on then to a Bachelor of Business, for which students will obtain a one year credit, and have two years remaining in their studies. Pursue your career as a tax agent, or prepare for further accounting studies by completing advanced courses in tax, commercial law, financial management, management accounting, company financial accounting, insolvency, and auditing. Apply your skills and knowledge of financial systems, as you undertake a practical placement with an accounting entity. This is the core structure of our Advanced Diploma of Accounting program, where you will complete three core units, and then progress on to complete 11 fixed elective units.

For our Diploma of Financial Planning, the core structure involves the completion of nine core units. There are six further elective units A. And, finally students are required to complete two fixed elective units B.

A centerpiece of our Financial Planning and Accounting programs is our Practice Firm Model. The practice firm is a firm created to replicate industry practice and an industry experience within our programs, based in level four of building 80. The Accounting Practice Firm is a new form of delivery that aims to engage students and teachers, simulate industry practice and standards through authentic assessment. The delivery model enhances the quality of teaching and student experience by engaging them in a simulated workplace environment. RMIT University is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with professional or vocational practice. In addition to industry events, industry guest speakers will be invited to speak about current topical issues, and will provide you with an experience perspective on study topics. Industry Advisory Committees for our Financial Services and Accounting programs comprises leading representatives from industry, including representatives of leading professional associations and high profile Industry practitioners.

RMIT has partnerships with over 215 universities around the world. These include universities in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, amongst others. For those of you who are stopping your studies at the Diploma of Accounting, you'll be able to gain employment at the conclusion of the program with work as a bookkeeper or BAS agent, an assistant accountant, a payroll officer, or an accounts clerk. Graduates from the diploma are encouraged to undertake the Advanced Diploma of Accounting, particularly if they wish to ultimately pursue a career as a tax agent, but also if they wish to undertake higher education studies in their related bachelor program. Those who progress through to the Advanced Diploma of Accounting are likely to gain employment at the conclusion of their program as tax agents or assistant accountants. Graduates from the Advanced Diploma of Accounting at RMIT will meet the educational requirements for registration as a tax agent, as prescribed by the Tax Practitioners Board, TPB, under the Tax Agent Services Act of 2009.

For those of you who are interested in studying the Diploma of Financial Planning, the career outcomes open to you exists within finance and financial planning services in the wholesale and retail sector, including superannuation, mortgage and finance broking, insurance, funds management, and retirement planning. Typical roles include power planner and paraprofessional related roles, and superannuation, life insurance and managed funds. The entry requirements for our Diploma of Accounting Program includes completion of Accounting Principles Skill Set, or completion of a Certificate IV in Accounting or equivalent, or completion of Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or equivalent, or completion of Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping. For international students, you must have successfully completed the Certificate IV in Accounting or Bookkeeping at RMIT University, or an equivalent program at another institution. Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundation Studies program or a recognized post secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.

The entry requirements for the Advanced Diploma of Accounting program include successful completion of the RMIT Diploma of Accounting or equivalent, or completion of the Accounting Principles Skill Set and Advanced Accounting Principles Skill Set. For international admissions, you must have successfully completed the Diploma of Accounting at RMIT University, or an equivalent program at another institution. Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundations program or a recognized post secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.

The entry requirements for admission into the Diploma of Financial Planning include, for current year 12, successful completion of Australian year 12 or equivalent, or the Australian Senior V Cal Certificate. This program does not select on ATAR. For non year 12 entry, completion of post secondary studies, or at least six months of work experience. The important dates for 2021 for the Vocational Education, Financial Planning and Accounting programs include orientation commencing on the 8th of February, classes commencing on the 8th of February, and the final date to enroll for semester one being on the 15th of February.
