Industrial Hub5
VISUAL: White RMIT University logo against red background and dark blue triangle in the bottom right corner. Below that it says, “What’s next…”. RMIT Pixel zooms in to reveal a red and blue colourised image of an industrial automation set up with three screens. Overlaid is white text that says RMIT University. Below this is two yellow banners with dark blue text.

Siemens – FESTO Industrial Digital Innovation Hub
VISUAL: Photo of the entrance way of a large red brick building. On the left part of the building is a black sign with white text. The text says RMIT University Building 55. On the glass window on the right part of the building is signage that says, “Advanced Manufacturing Precinct”.
Overlaying the image of the building is a dark blue rectangle with white text.
TEXT ON SCREEN: RMIT in partnership with Siemens and Festo Didatic has developed an Industrial Digital Innovation Hub to meet the demands of a digital future.
The Hub will complement teaching and research activities at the Advanced Manufacturing Precinct in digital design and 3D printing.
VISUAL: Industrial automation conveyor belt with three screens and flashing lights. Cut to up of metal rectangle moving along conveyer belt. Object briefly pauses on belt before continuing to move along.
TEXT ON SCREEN:
As many as 10,000 RMIT students across a range of disciplines will have access to some of the most advanced industrial software available over the next three years.
VISUAL: Male operation industrial automation machinery by pressing buttons on a touch screen. Cut to blue and white colourised photo of a male smiling standing outside wearing a suit and tie.
TEXT ON SCREEN:
“It has never been more important to provide this type of industrial digital environment for the development of workforce of the future, that allows collaborative interdisciplinary teams to co-design and co-create remotely across borders and industry sectors.”
Professor Aleks Subic, RMIT University
VISUAL: Four logos laid out in a square formation with four circles around each logo slightly overlapping each other. Going clockwise starting the top left logo is a green Teamcenter logo, followed by a blue and black MindSphere logo, followed by the Mendix logo which is also blue and black, followed by a PLM Software Siemens NX logo which is dark red and turquoise.
In the top left corner, dark blue text against a light blue background shape that points to the Teamcenter logo.
Title: Product Lifecycle Management.
Body text: Managing the entire lifecycle of product from inception, through engineering design and manufacturing.
In the bottom right corner, dark blue text against a light blue background shape points to the PLM Software Siemens NX logo.
Title: CAD/CAM Suite
Body text: Tools used to design and manufacture products. An engineer can use the system both for designing a product and for simulating manufacturing process.
In the top left corner, white text against a dark blue background shape that points to the MindSphere logo.
Title: IoT Platform
Body text: Stores operational data and makes it accessible through digital applications to allow users to make decisions based on valuable factual information.
In the bottom left corner, white text against a dark blue background shape that points to the Mendix logo.
Title: Application Development
Body text: Low code software platform. It provides tools to build, test, deploy and iterate applications.
VISUAL: Dark blue rectangle overlaid with white text. The text fades and new paragraph appears. This happens 3 times.
TEXT ON SCREEN: RMIT has partnered with Siemens to introduce industry 4.0 tools directly to our students.
Siemens is a German multinational conglomerate company and the largest industrial manufacturing company in Europe. The Siemens Industry 4.0 Software suite consists of a number of platforms and applications to support virtual product design, virtual modelling, low-code application development tools, and collaborative cloud-based open internet-of-things operating systems enabling feedback in real time with data.
RMIT students will use Siemens Industry 4.0 Software Suite including Team centre, NX, Mindsphere& Mendix while studying Associate Degree in Digital Technologies (Advanced Manufacturing).
VISUAL: 3D rendering of a birds eye view of the industrial automation conveyor set up.
TEXT ON SCREEN: Digital Enterprise Suite - Siemens answer to customer requirements. Siemens Ingenuity for life.
Cloud-based open IoT ecosystem: Mind Sphere.
Product Life Cycle Management
- Teamcenter
- Manufacturing Operations Management
- Totally Integrated Automation
VISUAL: Video of black rectangular object moving through conveyor belt. A part of the machine clamps down on it.
TEXT ON SCREEN: Students will experience in how digital and smart factories of the future will work including the full manufacturing-cycle of future factories.
VISUAL: A wide shot that shows the entire industrial automation set up. A robot on wheels with red and green flashing lights moves from the left-hand side of the room to the right.
TEXT ON SCREEN: The lab consists two islands of automation with three processes each and are connected by a mobile robot (Robotino).
VISUAL: Close up of touch screen buttons being pressed. In the background the rectangle object moves along the conveyor. A small robot arm picks up black rectangle object and flips it over.
TEXT ON SCREEN: The flexible design can be adapted to simulate a range of industrial processes from pallet transfer systems, automated online shopping, and smart factory assembly lines.
VISUAL: Hand pointing to different components inside metal enclosure under automation system. Enclosure has different plugs, small screens, and flashing lights. Cut to wide shot of the entire industrial automation system that cuts to medium shot of conveyor with blue rectangle object moving around.
- In this lab students will get hands on experience with:
- RFID tracking technology
- PLC programming and smart sensor technologies
- Network connectivity and Cloud services
- Maintenance, repair, and optimisation
- Determine data security risks and apply safety measures
VISUAL: Close up of conveyer with object moving directly towards the camera. RMIT pixel shape zooms in and out to reveal white RMIT logo against red and dark blue triangle in bottom right corner.
