A new Centre of Digital Excellence at RMIT Vietnam has been launched by Victoria’s Minister for Training and Skills, Steven Herbert.
The launch was attended by representatives from the Vietnam Government, industries, schools and universities in Vietnam, as well as Vice-Chancellor and President of RMIT University, Martin Bean CBE, and RMIT Vietnam’s Executive Team.
RMIT Vietnam Vice-President (Academic) Professor Beverley Webster emphasised the University’s strong commitment to sharing its digital learning and teaching expertise with Vietnam’s education community.
“Through the Centre of Digital Excellence (CODE), we will launch the online Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching and Learning, a program designed to improve participants' capacity to teach in higher education, with an emphasis on using digital and online teaching,” she said.
“We will also host a series of public lectures this year on digital education by renowned international experts.”
Professor Webster said that through the centre, RMIT Vietnam will realise an ambitious goal to build educational capacity in Vietnam.
“CODE will showcase models of digital innovation in learning and teaching in order to develop Vietnam’s education workforce capacities,” she said.
“Ultimately the centre will generate scholarships for Vietnamese university staff to study with RMIT Vietnam as well as promoting and supporting research in digital learning and teaching.
“We will also offer other educational institutions the opportunity to learn about RMIT Vietnam's approach to digital inclusiveness as part of the RMIT Access initiative launched early this year.”
CODE’s academic initiatives will include:
- An International Certificate/Diploma in Learning and Teaching with Digital Technologies
- An International Certificate/Diploma in Educational Leadership
- An International Certificate/Diploma in Teaching Bilingual Learners
- Hosting digital TESOL Talks for primary and secondary school teachers.
RMIT established CODE following discussions with Vietnam government officials surrounding Vietnam’s need for a digital excellence hub.
The centre is a collaborative venture between RMIT Vietnam, the Vietnamese Government, industry and Vietnam’s higher education institutions.
