Aviation website lands win for RMIT's Neeshma Sadanandhan
An RMIT interactive media student’s website design layout is set to go live online, after winning a state-wide competition.
One of Neeshma Sadanandhan’s 1940s aviation-inspired winning designs.
The brief was simple – create a visually interesting website layout to promote Kanana – a historical aircraft undergoing restoration at the Melbourne Aviation Precinct.
Diploma of Interactive Digital Media student Neeshma Sadanandhan won the competition with her 1940s aviation inspired design and will have her work go live online.
Additionally, Sadanandhan has received a $500 cash prize and a design internship at one of the business of the Little Group, who ran the competition.
The Little Group is a major residential and commercial property projects group that is currently working with the Melbourne Aviation Precinct – a key commercial hub in the aviation maintenance sector.
“The thought of my designs being showcased to the public is overwhelming!” Sadanandhan said.
“This is the first time that one of my works is being used for an official purpose and client.
“It’s good to know that my designs are progressing to a more professional level,” she said.
Sadanandhan took inspiration from the Legendary Kanana Instagram page, where historical images of the aircraft and information about its current restoration are posted.
“These photos gave me a clearer idea of what the Kanana looks like, inside and out, which in turn influenced my designs of the website.
“I even did some research on the existing retro style websites and also took inspiration from the 1930s design style and trends,” she said.
Sadanandhan is eager to continue designing more pages for the Kanana website as part of her internship at the Little Group.
Lecturer within the Diploma of Interactive Digital Media Jeanie Hague-Smith was thrilled with Sadanandhan’s win.
“Her designs were excellent and worked with the modern considerations of web technology,” Hague-Smith said.
“This was an amazing experience for my students and a great opportunity to work with industry.”
The Diploma of Interactive Digital Media runs for one year and provides students with industry-driven experience across media content production, broadcasting, animation and web and interactive design for a range of platforms.
