Launching Business MOOCs
RMIT University will join eight other leading higher education institutions around the world in rolling out massive open online courses (MOOCs) through FutureLearn Programs in 2016.
The College of Business is excited to be launching its series of four MOOCs under the banner of Online Business Success program, which is aimed at helping learners to take their business from ideation to implementation.
The program consists of four MOOCs, focusing on planning, positioning, pricing and digital marketing for online business success.
Upon completion of the four MOOCs participants are eligible to pathway into an RMIT University Certificate IV in Small Business Management, by applying for recognition of prior learning.
In line with this philosophy the MOOCs will feature a number of entrepreneurs who will share their own experiences of why they decided to start an online business, how they approached their pricing, selected their targeted audiences and marketed their business.
Professor Ian Palmer, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Business) and Vice President, RMIT, said: “We are excited to offer this unique program focussed on online business success, the next iteration of our commitment to providing transformative learner experiences.”
"As a University of technology, design and enterprise, we aim to provide access and opportunity to all learners across the globe,” he said.
“We believe the highly innovative Online Business Success program will resonate strongly with learners looking to develop their own online businesses.”
FutureLearn, the social learning platform owned by The Open University UK, has announced that it will allow learners to use its MOOCs to earn academic course credits for degrees, MBAs, professional qualifications and formal CPD accreditation.
Simon Nelson, CEO of FutureLearn, said: “We are delighted to be launching programs enabling our partners to use our platform to deliver learning for formal accreditation, as we see it as an important step in the unbundling of education and giving more control to the learner. Allowing people to take part of a degree course with the flexibility offered by our platform means that they can achieve meaningful qualifications supported through a social learning experience that allows them to learn with thousands of people from all over the world and collaborate within small groups.”
