Academic sharp brains to compete at 100-year celebration
Emerging innovators will pitch their ideas to experts and entrepreneurs at the Academic Sharp Brain competition, part of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute’s centenary congress, Chemeca 2017.
Distinguished Professor Suresh Bhargava, KIA Laureate.
Chemeca Chair, RMIT’s Distinguished Professor Suresh Bhargava, said chemical engineers and industrial chemists played a pivotal role in creating new knowledge and translating it into technologies that enhance our quality of life.
“To lead the change towards a better future, we need to involve all those for whom the changes are intended, to create the sense of ownership and responsibility.
“We need to create a thrilling and exciting landscape that allows everyone to say I am a part of the change.
“The current generation wants to make a difference. Their participation is vital in creating a greater culture of innovation,” Bhargava said.
Chemeca has assembled a world-class line-up of thought leaders, knowledge experts and knowledge investors, including:
- Dr Girish Sahni, Director-General, CSIR, India
- Professor Andrew Holms FRS, President of the Australian Academy of Sciences
- Professor Max Lu, Vice-Chancellor, University of Surrey, UK
- Martin Bean CBE, Vice-Chancellor, RMIT University
- Professor Paul Weiss, Presidential Chair, University of California
- Dr Megan Clark AC, the former CEO of CSIRO
