RMIT is again joining the Australian Grand Prix Corporation as a strategic partner of the Industry and Innovation Precinct at the 2017 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix.
The Industry and Innovation Precinct, located in Legends Lane, is the ultimate learning hub designed to showcase the latest in Australian ingenuity and capabilities and the destination for thousands of students, future innovators and entrepreneurs.
Martin Bean CBE, RMIT Vice-Chancellor and President, said he was delighted to partner with the 2017 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix, making it the second consecutive year that RMIT has been involved.
“Our partnership with the 2017 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the work our students do across so many disciplines,” Martin said.
"Visitors to the RMIT marquee at the Industry and Innovation Precinct will see how our students and staff are shaping the world, through automotive design, virtual reality, smart textiles, robotics, entrepreneurship and much more.”
As a former RMIT Engineering student, Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO, Andrew Westacott, is proud of the event’s partnership with RMIT and the opportunity this presents event attendees from 23 -26 March.
“This joint venture with RMIT provides a fantastic platform to illustrate how industry, education and entertainment all come together to provide the global experience that is the Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix,” Westacott said.
An assortment of technologies will be showcased in the Industry and Innovation Precinct including; the latest in drone and virtual reality technology, as well as artificial intelligence and Defence equipment.
To mark this strategic partnership, the iconic Hosier Lane in Melbourne has been transformed into a "fast lane" with RMIT School of Art alumnus, Julian Clavijo, designing a mural depicting the immersive worlds of innovation and education.
The Hosier Lane mural aims to engage the community and prompt visitors to see and think about Formula One in a different environment.
