Zero carbon futures, urban memory and imagination, and digital infrastructure are just some of the themes that will be explored at Knowledge Market phase two: The Exchange.
The Exchange at Knowledge Market is an innovative collaboration between Lendlease and RMIT that will explore the concept of community and new ways of understanding the shared urban environment through a curated series of public workshops, exhibitions, forums and events.
Located in Victoria Harbour, Lendlease’s Knowledge Market was launched in 2016 as a dedicated learning hub for Melbourne’s growing knowledge sector, connecting the precinct’s residents, workers and visitors with global ideas and inspirational mentors, facilitators and experiences.
Lendlease’s Project Director for Victoria Harbour, Tim Campbell, said the RMIT partnership marked the project’s next exciting phase.
“Innovation and sustainability underpin everything we do at Victoria Harbour, and our partnership with RMIT builds on those foundations to deliver workshops and events that will engage people to a range of experts and local leaders who will speak on the future of urban living and the issues facing cities now and in the future,” Campbell said.
“Through peer-to-peer learning, we’re providing an engine room for cross-industry collaboration, idea sharing and connectivity.
“We hope that Knowledge Market can also be used to inspire future models of community engagement for governments, councils, developers and communities,” Campbell said.
The 12-month partnership will see RMIT’s Schools of Architecture, Design and Media and Communication curate a program of research projects and public events focused on four key themes: Zero Carbon Futures; Social Diversity; Digital Infrastructure; and Urban Memory and Imagination.
“The Exchange is a great example of the interdisciplinary and practice-based design research that is one of RMIT’s strengths,” said Professor Paul Gough, RMIT Pro Vice Chancellor Design and Social Context, and Vice-President.
“The project shows what can be achieved when our researchers collaborate with leading Australian industry partners to address real-world challenges.”
Acting as a living lab, The Exchange takes on an open house format from 10am to 5pm weekdays, encouraging people to drop in and contribute to the ongoing conversation about urban living.
The Exchange at Knowledge Market is at shop 8–10, 892 Bourke Street, Victoria Harbour, open from 10am-5pm weekdays with special events on evenings and weekends. Register for more information at www.knowma.com.au/.
