Activator’s Pre-Accelerator program for founders of impact ventures

We’re as passionate as you are about launching your start up.

That’s because the businesses we take into LaunchHUB are selected for their potential to change the world at scale – through the circular economy, technology for good, global connections, and more.

To help you build a business that makes the positive impact you envisioned when you started your business, founders accepted into LaunchHUB go through 12 weeks of intensive learning and graduate with ongoing support from the Activator community long after the program ends. Plus, LaunchHUB provides you with equity-free funding opportunities and access to RMIT’s world-class technology and researchers.

We’re currently accepting applications for the next LaunchHUB intake. Places are strictly limited to 10 start ups, to allow for our facilitators and mentors to make the experience as rewarding as possible for each and every founder.

What can you expect if you’re accepted into LaunchHUB?

Weekly stand-ups

Facilitated by coaches with lived entrepreneurial experience, our weekly accountability stand ups keep you on track to achieve your goals, with the added support and feedback of your fellow cohort.

Growth sessions

Learn from start up experts, who will help you work towards product-market fit. During these sessions, you will develop an understanding of your customer, define and test your value proposition, learn how to pitch for partnerships and much more.

Community

Your LaunchHUB experience includes an invitation to the Activator Connect co-working space, in the Melbourne CBD. Bounce ideas off fellow founders and recharge around the energy of likeminded humans – including the friendly Activator team!

Coaching

Your coaches are there to keep you on track, sound out your challenges and connect you to experts when it’s helpful. They’re entrepreneurs themselves, so they know how far a good connection can go or how much a vent can help.

The Jacques Nasser Fund for Innovation

We are thrilled to be able to offer our brilliant LaunchHUB founders another funding avenue to help them grow their social impact driven start ups.

Scholarships worth $15k each will be granted to founders who best fit the profile of a Jacques Nasser Fund for Innovation recipient.

Please note, to qualify for consideration, you need to be connected to RMIT and have completed LaunchHUB.

Who should join LaunchHUB?

LaunchHUB connects us to founders who are invested in making a positive social impact. While we welcome all types of ventures, RMIT is closely aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals outlined by the United Nations.

The goals were developed based on the pillars of protecting our natural resources and climate for future generations, ensuring dignity, equality and prosperity, fostering peace and inclusive societies and promoting partnerships. So if your business fits the description, we highly recommend you start the application process.

 

Successful applicants will also have:

  • A team that is driven and purposeful. At least one team member must be able to attend all sessions over the 12 weeks.
  • An understanding of market opportunity
  • An identifiable problem and solution
  • Early customer validation through real user feedback
  • A curious mindset and a willingness to ask questions, take on feedback and support your fellow founders

Frequently asked questions

We are delivering the program face-to-face this year and monitor restrictions carefully throughout the program to ensure we operate in line with the university and government guidelines. Successful applicants will receive a detailed information on delivery mode but the expectation should remain that this program is delivered face-to-face.

We understand that everyone has their own preferences and/or have prior engagements scheduled pre-program. The intensive nature of the LaunchHUB program requires at least one person from your team to attend each session.

The program is designed to help you find your Impact Venture - even if your idea isn't immediately aligned. We will be running a session in impact model, circularity and how this can be implemented into what you already have. We are here to help you add more value to your venture by identifying how you can link into the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals.

We welcome all startups to apply even if none of your co-founders are affiliated with RMIT. However, the Activator Capital Fund is only available to those with at least 1 co-founder affiliated.

Most importantly, your team must have a co-founder that is affiliated with RMIT and that co-founder needs to hold majority stake in the startup. Once those are identified in your application form, you are automatically considered to receive the funding - the rest is decided by your progress through the program and your final presentation to the board.

RMIT Activator does not take any stake in your IP and we wish to not be involved in any IP ownership-related issues. The knowledge we share on this program is the University’s way of supporting the wider community with no strings attached. However, if you are a staff member and/or looking to translate your research, we strongly encourage you to contact IP & Commercialisation to settle things early.

  • At least one founding member has to be RMIT Staff, Student or Alumni
  • Demonstrate a working MVP
  • Can work part or full-time from the CBD co-working space
  • Commitment to key program activities including weekly stand-ups every Monday at 10am– 11:30am
