Centre for Game Design Research

Neon lights down a corridor.

The Centre for Game Design Research understands games as creative, social and cultural artefacts and thus as this century’s defining medium.

The Centre seeks to probe emergent areas for research as well as redefine the role of games in society as a whole. We understand game design research as the iterative process of constructing and refining rules and mechanics to facilitate interaction between players to engage people, motivate action, promote learning, and solve problems.

Based in the School of Media and Communication at RMIT University in Australia. The Centre brings together scholars, artists, designers, engineers and students across Schools and Research Centres at RMIT as well as participants from other Universities and Industry.
