Advanced materials and technologies
RMIT combines engineering design, cutting edge technology and textiles expertise to design functional clothing to optimise the performance and safety of defence personnel.
Using photonics to enhance electromagnetic warfare
High speed photonic modulators developed at RMIT enable radar countermeasures to be distributed over defence platforms while also making them immune to electromagnetic interference.
The technology has become an integral part of Australia’s advanced countermeasures suite. It has also enabled Defence to explore other applications of high-speed microwave/photonics as part of its electronic warfare offerings.
RMIT MicroNano Research Facility
The MicroNano Research Facility (MNRF) brings together diverse and high quality multidisciplinary micro and nano technology research into a single hub. RMIT has operated cleanroom fabrication and metrology facilities for over 30 years. MNRF has comprehensive facilities for the design, modelling, fabrication, packaging, and characterisation of micro and nano scale devices. Nine laboratories are housed within the 1,000 square metre facility.
