ERA is a national system, developed by the Commonwealth Government and being run by the Australian Research Council (ARC), to evaluate the quality of research in all Australian universities.
The 2015 round of the ERA assessment was the third nationwide analysis of research quality conducted in Australia, undertaken by the Australian Research Council.
RMIT ranks 15th nationally on average score by field of research (4-digit) climbing three places since the 2012 round and has the highest number of disciplines with a 5-digit rating since ERA 2012.
RMIT remains the only institution in Australia to demonstrate research excellence well above world standard in Aerospace Engineering . It also continued to excel in other engineering research areas, particularly Electrical and Electronic, Materials, and Mechanical Engineering.
RMIT is one of only a few research leaders nationally in Visual Arts and Crafts, while it is one of only two in Australia to engage in research that is well above world standard in Communication and Media Studies.
RMIT has maintained and built upon its dominance in the design, building and urban planning research areas as it is the only institution in Australia with such demonstrated comprehensive performance in these areas.
