Completed in 2013, Bree Alexander's internship program with the Centre for Global Research resulted in another internship opportunity for her, this time with an NGO.
The Centre for Global Research internship program that I completed between August and December 2013 with Dr Yaso Nadarajah marked the beginning of a truly enriching experience for me.
"It involved working on a dynamic gender justice project; an edited book in collaboration with the Malaysian Islamic feminist NGO Sisters in Islam (SIS) which is based on a national study on the lived experiences of polygamy in Malaysia.
"Yaso’s willingness to nurture and support my work and share her wisdom through this mentorship has resulted in both personal and professional growth. I continue to enjoy my work with Yaso and immersion in this project beyond the original internship. I am really excited to see it through to completion as we travel to Kuala Lumpur to finalise the book manuscript alongside SIS members in June 2014. Furthermore, this has led to an internship opportunity with SIS later in the year. The ongoing process of learning and reflection, thanks to this one-on-one relationship, continues to inspire me. It has been truly transformative."
