This project examines how vulnerable persons and emergency management organisations use social media during disasters.
October 2017-October 2018
$138,827 ($136,868 as per R&I data) Emergency Management Victoria, National Disaster Resilience Grants Scheme
The project will create training resources on how to use social media to engage vulnerable populations.
The need for the project is driven by the risk of disasters — such as bushfires, heatwaves and floods — to vulnerable communities; the projected growth in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather-related disasters; and the increasing reliance on social media as a communication and information tool.
