Execution of the Naval Shipbuilding Plan is truly a national endeavour, and the capabilities and capacity of Defence Industry across Australia will be key to its success.
The National Naval Shipbuilding Education Pilot offers an opportunity to have years 3 & 4 of your Engineering Degree (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electrical-these need to be confirmed) fully funded by the Department of Defence through the (Queensland Institute of Technology-Brisbane/Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology-Melbourne).
The National Naval Shipbuilding Education Pilot is an exciting opportunity to be part of a program that is tailored to provide Defence sponsored university study which includes relevant and meaningful work placements, mentoring and capstone projects; followed by post graduate support and possible employment within the Naval Shipbuilding Enterprise workforce.
Through a rich program of tailored electives that prepare you in sought after work ready skills including complex project and program management, systems integration and project leadership, this pilot will fully prepare you for an exciting role in Defence or Defence Industry that could see you contributing to the Naval Shipbuilding Plan.
What are my job prospects after successfully completing the National Naval Shipbuilding Education Pilot?
This pilot is part of the National Shipbuilding Plan that will see significant investment in the skills and capabilities required going forward in the area of engineering. You will be accessing experience in both Defence and Defence Industry to give you the broadest possible skill-based preparation to join the shipbuilding workforce.
Employment pathways available to graduates include:
- Accept an 18 month non-ongoing Defence contract following the successful completion of your engineering degree to complete a Defence Induction Program that will include placements in Defence and Defence Industry
- Apply directly, in your final year, for an ongoing position on the Defence Graduate Program as part of a merit selection process
- Apply directly for a Department of Defence engineering position
- Apply directly for an Industry engineering position with leading Defence Industry organisations including BAE Systems Australia, Luminact, and Thales.
