RMIT is currently responding to an IT issue that has impacted access to a number of the University's supported systems, applications and services. Work is underway to restore access to all systems as quickly as possible.

From the analysis undertaken to date, there is no evidence to suggest any data breaches as a result of these issues.

System Status
Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) We advise that you DO NOT reset your RMIT systems password at this time. Reset passwords are not currently syncing across all systems.

If you have reset your password since Friday 19 February, your new password will work for any systems with a myApps login page (including Canvas and myTimetable). For all apps that do not have a myApps login (such as your RMIT student email), your new password will not work and you will need to continue using your old password until the IT outage is resolved.

Once the IT outage issue is resolved, your new password will automatically sync across all systems.
Outlook (RMIT student email) Operational
Canvas (LMS) Operational for all students enrolled in classes before Thursday 18 February. Students should continue to check Canvas for program and class details.

Students who enrolled after 18 February or who have not yet enrolled will not be able to access Canvas or may experience limited functionality.
myTimetable (class timetable system) Operational for all students enrolled in classes before Thursday 18 February. Students who enrolled after this date or who have not yet enrolled will not be able to access myTimetable or may experience limited functionality.

If you do not have a student card and need one to access campus, you can collect a temporary card from locations on campus. Find out more on the Student card webpage.
RMIT Student Connect Portal (ServiceNow) Partially operational. Students can log a request but will not receive an email if their request is responded to. If you have active requests, please check the ‘My requests’ tab to see updates to your request.
IT Service and Support Portal (ServiceNow) Partially operational. Students can log a request but will not receive an email if their request is responded to. If you have active requests, please check the ‘My requests’ tab to see updates to your request.
Admissions Portal (ServiceNow) Partially operational. Applicants can perform all activities via the Admission Portal but will not receive notification emails. Campus access

Campus is open to students, with on-campus classes and orientation activities scheduled for the week of Monday 22 February proceeding as planned.

Students should continue to check Canvas for the latest information on their class arrangements.

The Library as a study space is still open to students, however students will not be able to borrow resources or print at this time.

In 2021, all students attending campus MUST complete COVIDsafe protocols BEFORE coming to campus or they will not be granted access. Go to the Return to campus page to complete your COVIDsafe protocols.

HDR access to research facilities

Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students can access their research spaces and workspaces as approved. If you are a HDR student, please check your RMIT email for more information.

WiFi on campus

RMIT has temporarily switched to use the Guest WiFi network on all campuses.  Students on campus can join the Guest WiFi by following these instructions:

  • Select RMIT - GUEST from the available network list on your device
  • Click on the EVENT tab
  • Enter Event Code 524145
  • Enter your details to register

RMIT’s IT Services team is working to resolve issues that have impacted access to some of the University’s supported applications and systems.

Swift action was taken to secure our systems and we have made significant progress in restoring access to many of those systems that were impacted. Currently no action is required from students or staff. 

As soon as the issue was identified, RMIT took immediate precautionary measures to secure all its systems. RMIT’s systems have been secured. Work is now underway to restore access to all systems across all locations.

Yes, it is safe to open emails from RMIT and access your RMIT student inbox

It’s important to check every email you receive for suspicious links, senders or requests for personal information.

Forward all suspicious emails received in your RMIT mailbox to reportphishing@rmit.edu.au. If it is found to be malicious, our cyber experts will take the necessary action to contain the risk.

Yes, all previously scheduled on-campus classes are proceeding as planned and we are continuing to welcome students to a range of orientation activities on campus this week. For the full list of orientation events and activities, go to the Orientation page.

Students will need a student card to access campus. If you don’t have one yet, you can collect a temporary card from locations at each campus. Proof of identity and a student number will be required.

Yes, making sure we are adhering to our COVIDsafe protocols is still essential. All students and staff attending campus must complete their one-off COVIDsafe 2021 Training Module at least 24 hours before coming to campus and complete a Daily Health Declaration every day before attending campus. Both of these systems are working and operational.

Yes, WiFi is currently available on campus, but we are temporarily changing the WiFi log-in on all campuses. Please see the 'WiFi on campus' section above for login instructions.
Students can physically access RMIT's Swanston, Carlton, Bundoora and Brunswick libraries and will be required to use a QR code to check in. The Library as a study space is still open to students, however students will not be able to borrow resources or print at this time.
No, printing facilities are currently unavailable on campus. We are working to resolve this and put in place interim solutions.
