Online learning and assessments

RMIT is supporting students with study tools and support to assist the transition to an online teaching, learning and assessment environment. We know this transition may be challenging, but it isn't sufficient grounds for special consideration.

If you have any online timed assessments, i.e. assessments that take place at a specific time, you need to be available at the scheduled time. If you’re unable to attend or complete the timed assessment due to unexpected circumstances beyond your control, you may then be eligible to apply for special consideration.

Technical issues with assessments

If you experience a technical or connection problem during an online assessment, please advise your course coordinator or tutor in writing as soon as possible. You may then follow the steps to apply for special consideration and provide your supporting documents.

The following technical issues are not grounds for special consideration:

  • The transition from face-to-face to an online teaching, learning and assessment environment.
  • An electronic file of your work becomes corrupt and you haven’t kept a back-up.
  • Any technical problems that could have been prevented, avoided or the effects minimised by reasonable diligence; e.g. uploading an incorrect file, or not uploading a file successfully.
  • Minor technical issues such as a brief interruption to your internet or power.

If any of the above situations occur, we recommend you contact your course coordinator as soon as possible to discuss your options.

Self-isolating due to COVID-19

If you’re self-isolating because you have symptoms and/or are awaiting COVID-19 test results, and this is impacting your ability to complete assessments, you may be eligible for special consideration. This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

When you apply, make sure you provide as much information as possible in your self-statement and upload all relevant supporting documents to help us understand your circumstances.
