An RMIT business card identifies you as an enrolled student at the University, participating in a supervised research activity, and subject to the relevant policies, procedures and codes of conduct.

If you have been granted a business card it is important that you use it only when involved in legitimate University business and that you conduct yourself in a manner that upholds the reputation of the University.

You should apply for your business cards at least four weeks before you require them (earlier if your business card requires translation or needs to be delivered outside of Australia).

To be eligible for an RMIT business card you must be enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program and have successfully completed your Confirmation of Candidature.

Please note: You are not able to apply for a business card if you have already submitted your thesis or project for examination.

Complete the online application for business cards (RMIT Google account login required). You can view a sample business card (PDF 41KB) for guidance.

You may apply for 50 cards at any one time. If you require more than this you must provide justification in the additional comments section of the application.

You will receive an acknowledgement email from the SGR within 10 days of submitting your application. If any corrections are required you will be informed at this time.

You will be emailed a proof of your business cards prior to printing, which you will need to approve. It is your responsibility to ensure your details are correct, as the SGR cannot take responsibility for any misspelled names or other incorrect information you have provided.

Once you have approved the proof, you should expect to receive your business cards within approximately two weeks.

Translated business cards

If you request your card be translated to a language other than English, you will need the approval of the Dean or Head of your School and the relevant College Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC), before SGR can process your request. There are also additional costs associated with translating business cards, and these costs must be borne by the school at which you are enrolled. Please discuss this with your school before submitting a request for translated cards.

Seeking approval for and translating your business cards will delay your application and it is strongly recommended that you submit your application well in advance to ensure you receive your cards by the time you need them.

You will receive an email when your business cards are ready. Depending on your request, you can either collect your cards from the School of Graduate Research on the city campus, or at your school.

If you are located outside of Australia, you can request that your business cards to be posted to you when they are ready. Business cards can only be posted to an address that is recorded on RMIT systems – please check and update your address via your myRMIT portal before submitting your application. You will need to ensure that you submit your application early if your cards have to be posted outside of Australia, as delivery may take some time depending on your location.
