Student surveys

Surveys allow students to submit feedback on their courses, uni experience, student services and more.

During and after your learning at RMIT, you will be prompted to complete a variety of surveys at different points in your learning journey so that we can better understand your experiences and make improvements to our courses and campus. 

Different surveys provide different opportunities to provide feedback on varied aspects of your experience at RMIT, including in and outside the classroom, your access to support services and campus amenities.

RMIT recognises that anonymity in giving feedback is important in ensuring fairness for all students. All surveys we conduct are confidential and anonymous. All results used in reporting are aggregated at course or program levels and all qualitative comments are de-identified. 

Course Experience Survey (CES)

The Course Experience Survey (CES) is an important tool for RMIT to understand the quality of student experience at a course level. In the CES, students are prompted to provide feedback on their learning experience, including course content, structure, assessments, their teachers and more.

When the CES is open, all students enrolled into a higher education course or vocational education program will receive an email in their RMIT student inbox with a direct link to complete the surveys

The CES is usually completed towards the end of the semester, however results are not released back to teachers until students receive their results for the semester. 
 

Past survey results

Survey results are shared with various business units within RMIT to help with improving learning and teaching. Course and Program Coordinators also review the results as part of continuous improvement of courses.

Student Experience Survey (SES)

The Student Experience Survey (SES) is an important tools for RMIT to understand the overall student experience. 

The SES is conducted once a year by the Social Research Centre on behalf of the Australian Government to understand student satisfaction toward their enrolled tertiary institution and their experience at university. 

The survey takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

In the SES, students are prompted to provide feedback on their overall student experience at RMIT, including learning at a program level and the general campus experience, including services, support, amenities and more. 

The SES is aimed at all first year and final year higher education students. When the SES is open, all eligible students will receive an email from ses@srcentre.com.au in their RMIT student inbox with a direct link to complete the survey.

At the same time, all vocational education students receive a similar survey called the Learner Questionnaire (LQ), and all higher degree by research (HDR) students receive a survey called the SES HDR. Eligible students will receive an email from surveys@rmit.edu.au in their RMIT student inbox with a direct link to complete the surveys.

Student Outcomes Survey (SOS)

The Student Outcomes Survey (SOS) collects feedback from vocational education (VE) students who have completed or left early from government funded vocational education programs. 

In the SOS, students have the opportunity to provide feedback on their training experience and share information on their graduate employment outcomes and further study pathways so that we can continue to improve the quality of vocational training. 

The survey highlights both the positive and negative outcomes from training and monitors the effectiveness of the VE system. The information collected assists in administering, planning, and evaluating the VE system.

Vocational education graduates are emailed the survey link approximately four months after completing their qualification.

Eligible students will receive the survey link via email four months after completing or leaving a vocational education qualification. 

The Social Research Centre conducts and collects the survey results which are provided to The National Centre for Vocational Education Research who report back to RMIT.

Graduate Outcomes Survey (GOS)

The Graduate Outcomes Survey (GOS) is a national survey conducted by the Australian Government to better understand how well higher education students are being prepared for post-graduation success and graduates’ overall program satisfaction.

Eligible students will receive the survey via email four months after graduation, so they can provide information on their employment outcomes, further study pathways and overall satisfaction with learning.

This information is critical for RMIT to continue improving the student learning experience, learning resources, support services and campus facilities.

The Social Research Centre conducts and collects the survey results which are provided to The National Centre for Vocational Education Research who report back to RMIT.
