'Employment Rights' for International Students - presented by WEstjustice

This is an opportunity for RMIT International Students to hear from Community Legal Centre, 'WEstjustice, about Australian workplace rights' and where you can turn to for assistance if you ever experience exploitative work practices.

This workshop will be presented by Thea Debler-Depold, Youth Employment Lawyer, and will cover all you need to know in terms of working rights in Australia and how they are relevant to you including:

  • Underpayments
  • Independent contracting vs Employment
  • Cash in hand
  • Employment scams
  • Unpaid trial work
  • Discrimination, bullying, and harassment
  • Leave
  • Minimum and Award Wages
  • Entitlements

About WEstjustice 

Thea Debler-Depold is a Youth Employment Lawyer at WEstjustice. WEstjustice is a community organisation that provides free legal help to people in the Western suburbs of Melbourne. They can help with a broad range of everyday legal problems including consumer disputes, credit and debt, family law and family violence, fines, motor vehicle accidents, tenancy, youth criminal law and more. WEstjustice have offices in Footscray, Werribee and Sunshine, as well as a number of outreach services. They also provide free community legal education, undertake law reform activities and work in partnership with our local communities to deliver innovative projects that build legal capacity and improve access to justice.
