RMIT Sports Centre Guidelines 

Everyone who attends the Sports Centre is expected to vigilantly adhere to all RMIT University and RMIT Sports Centre safety measures and protocols. These include the following:  


It is essential that staff, students and visitors do not attend the Sports Centre if they are feeling unwell. If you feel unwell, you should seek advice from a medical practitioner and consider getting a COVID test. 

Acknowledgement of fitness  

By attending RMIT Sports Centre you acknowledge and agree that you do not have any COVID-19 symptoms and that you are not in a category of risk for transmission. That is:  

  • You do not have any symptoms of COVID-19.  
  • You have not had close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case in the last 14 days.  
  • You have not arrived in Australia from overseas in the last 14 days.  
  • You are not aware of any other circumstances which makes you reasonably believe you are high risk of transmitting COVID-19. 

If any of the above circumstances apply, we ask you not to attend the center and to see a doctor or medical professional, call the COVID-19 hotline (1800 020 080) for advice and consider getting a COVID test. 


  • In line with government advice (18 June 2021), you must wear a face mask in public indoor spaces, unless you have a lawful reason not to.  
  • Don't attend the centre if you have any symptoms of fever, sore throat, cough, tiredness or difficulty breathing.  
  • Do cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze (with a flexed elbow or tissue, not your hand) – dispose of any tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands.  
  • Do wash your hands regularly for a minimum of 20 – 30 seconds.  
  • Do apply hand sanitisers with at least 60% ethanol or 70% isopropanol, if soap and water is not available.  
  • Do contact your doctor if you feel sick.  
  • Don't touch your mouth, nose or eyes if you have not washed your hands.  
  • Don't spend time with people who are sick.  
  • Don't spit or shake hands with others. 

Physical Distancing 

  • Attempt to keep a distance of 1.5 metres between yourself and other patrons at all times.  
  • Avoid crowds and large gatherings.  
  • Avoid shaking hands, hugging, or kissing other people  
  • Adhere to physical distancing signage around the centre 


  • All casual users and external clubs must complete the check-in process at reception including Bundoora Sports Precinct QR code attendance registration 
  • To minimise contact we prefer payment methods by credit card whenever possible but will accept cash payment for our smaller entry fees and charges.  
  • Always follow venue safety and directional signage 
  • Group sizes are restricted to comply with government guidelines 
  • Capacity limits apply in all recreation facility spaces and sports grounds 
  • Please ensure you bring your own water bottle. Bubbler taps will be unavailable; however, filler taps are accessible and bottled water is available for purchase from reception 
  • No secure locker access will be available. Please leave valuable personal items at home. Some pigeonhole lockers for bags will be available 
  • No sports equipment is currently available for hire including basketballs, tennis and squash racquets. 
  • Changerooms and toilets will be open  
  • No shower facilities are currently available. We encourage participants to come ready to play and shower at home 
  • All clubs and long-term bookings must complete a COVIDSafe ‘Return to Play’ plan prior to commencing their training session 
  • Sporting clubs are to nominate one official, to ensure accurate attendance tracking is recorded for each training or competition session 
  • External group bookings will be required to submit ‘team sheets/attendance lists’ with contact details of all participants prior to any activity commencing. A copy of the team sheets can be found here.  
  • Spectators must abide by gathering restrictions and keep 1.5m apart. 
  • FACE MASKS: You must always carry a face mask unless you have a lawful excuse for not wearing one such as a medical condition or are under the age of 12. Face coverings must be worn on entry to the centre including prior to and after the exercise activity, i.e., entering and exiting the health club. Face masks can be removed when a person is performing exercise or physical activity where you are out of breath or puffing, such as: 

            - Running on a treadmill 
            - High intensity and functional circuits 
            - Cardio and dance classes 
            - Training and competition related to team sports  

Indoor Highball Stadium  

  • You are required to check-in at the Indoor Sports Centre reception desk before your session 
  • If you are a sporting club, ensure you have completed and submitted a ‘Return to Play’ document 
  • Please arrive before your session to avoid unnecessary queuing 
  • Leave immediately after your session to avoid crowding 

Health Club 

  • Strict no towel, no entry policy. Sweat towels are available for purchase at reception. 
  • Equipment and benches must be cleaned after each use with the sanitising products provided 
  • No secure locker access will be available. Some pigeonhole lockers for bags will be available 
  • Some cardio and pin loaded equipment will be signed “temporarily out of use” to maintain physical distancing 

Group Fitness 

  • Arrive just before your session to avoid unnecessary queuing 
  • You must bring your own yoga/floor mat to attend classes 
  • Please vacate the facility as quickly as possible after your class to enable the next session to commence safely 
Outdoor Sports Fields 
  • If you are a sporting club, ensure you have completed and submitted a ‘Return to Play’ document to RMIT Sports Centre 
  • All participants should practice good hand hygiene before and after attendance  
  • Close contact in pavilion changerooms should be avoided 
  • Bring your own filled drink bottle as no public drink fountains will be made available 
  • Arrive just before your session to avoid congregating 
  • Participants are encouraged to arrive ready to play 
  • All sports equipment should be wiped down before and after training/exercise sessions 
  • Group sizes to be restricted to comply with government guidelines 
  • Ensure every club has a nominated COVID Safety Officer 
  • No more than the minimum number of participants required to conduct the training or game participate in the activity (e.g., players, necessary coaches, umpires and those required for supervision of young children or to support people with a disability) 
  • The rules of the sport governing body (e.g., the State Sporting Association) determine the number that can participate (the number who would normally be involved in a match or training, including players on the field/court and allowed substitutes)  
  • Spectators must abide by gathering restrictions and maintain physical distancing of 1.5m. 
  • Access to change rooms is limited to players and essential staff only as required (i.e. coach, team manager, trainers – no parents or spectators) with relevant capacity restrictions 
  • A record, log or register of attendance, which clearly identifies all participants including players, coaches and officials must be maintained and provided to RMIT Sports Centre after each session. Each individual is also required to register their details in the Bundoora Sports centre QR code attendance register at every session. 
  • It is the participating Clubs’ responsibility to monitor crowd social distancing and if required they can liaise with Police to enforce social distancing protocols
