Benefits of cutting down

  • You'll feel much healthier.
  • You’ll feel a greater sense of control over your life – that you have choices you can make.
  • If you cut down on your consumption you'll save money.
  • You'll be able to get much fitter.
  • You’ll increase your chances of having improved mental health and wellbeing.

Help and support

  • Get advice from your doctor, nurse or other health care professional – this may be all you need to change your behaviour.
  • Get help from online resources or telephone support services (Quitline 137848). You can get support from a friend, a professional or a group of other people who are giving up or reducing.
  • Pair up with a friend who is also trying to stop.
  • At first you may find it easier not being around friends who engage in the behaviour you are trying to change – but friends and family can give valuable support.
  • Some people like acupuncture and hypnotherapy – but clinical trials have not shown that they help.

Online support and apps that help
