Make the time to connect with the people in your life – and take care of yourself.

It's good to chat

R U OK? Day 2019 is Thursday 12 September. It’s an annual reminder to stay connected and have meaningful conversations with the people in your life.

Asking ‘Are you OK?’ can make a world of difference to someone who may be struggling. You don't need to be an expert to reach out – just a good friend and listener.

On R U OK? Day, join an event on campus and connect with friends or meet new people over free food and activities. And throughout the year, keep checking in with your family, friends and community.

How to ask ‘Are you OK?’

‘Are you OK?’ is a simple question, but it can be a hard one to ask. Being prepared can help you feel more confident. Read the steps on how to check in with someone.

  • Ask: Be relaxed and friendly in your approach
  • Listen: Be patient, open-minded and non-judgmental
  • Encourage: Be positive and ask how they want to be supported
  • Check in: Stay in touch and continue to support them

Support your wellbeing

Your mental wellbeing is so important. Before you can look out for others, you need to look after yourself. Make sure you know where to find support when you need it.
