Julia | Nanyang Technological University | Exchange | Singapore
“The most valuable thing I learnt? Nothing great ever happens in the comfort zone.”
Julia completed her exchange for one semester in 2018, in Singapore.
In 2018, I went for an exchange at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore for one semester. No one is ever going to be able to describe to you how truly valuable an experience like this is.
Being thrown into an unfamiliar environment, into a new culture, into a place where no one knows you is scary. But the most valuable thing I learnt? Nothing great ever happens in the comfort zone.
This experience showed me truly how exciting and beautiful life is. You get a completely new perspective on everything. I tried foods I’d never tried before (like frog legs & durian!), I traveled to three different countries – Malaysia, Vietnam & Thailand (with flight tickets to each destination under $80!)
I explored Singapore, took exciting university electives, and made friendships that will last forever. Any exchange student will tell you that exchange was one of the most eye opening, self-developing and greatest experiences of their life. I learnt things about people, about culture and especially about myself that I could never have learnt had I not gone. It is indescribable.
If you’re thinking about going – do it. Don’t think twice. You will not regret this in any way. Go. This is your sign.
