Kate Shavinina – Building Design
After moving to Melbourne, Kate Shavinina is loving the focus on employability and skills in the building design program.
Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural)
I did an English course in Melbourne and was surprised – it’s such an international city. I fell in love with it.
"I saw the amazing RMIT buildings and later, when I was searching for universities, I found out RMIT is one of the best universities for design.
"I like the course. It’s all about employability skills. You study the way you work in real life – you have one submission, then another and another. We have different projects and receive them in a real office setting. We’re learning how to present our work. The teachers are funny and caring and really help us out.
"I was inspired by the exhibition we had. You get to show who you are and what you do. There were some people from industry there – real architects. They said they were surprised how good the work was. The second year students are doing models and designing more commercial buildings. I’m looking forward to that."
