An interest in biology and chemistry led Jennifer Diaz to study biomedical science, where she is furthering her knowledge and understanding of the human body in order to pursue a career in research.
Bachelor of Biomedical Science
I’ve had the opportunity to work with a supervisor and complete a small research project, which gave me an insight into a research and made me think about the areas of research I’m most interested in.
The biomedical sciences program at RMIT focuses on practical application which I found really appealing.
As part of my studies I’ve learnt not just the theory of what we are studying but also the real life application.
In addition to developing laboratory skills and techniques, I can identify the muscles that make up my body, the neurological pathways of the brain and perform many different lab experiments.
My favourite subject has been Practical Biomedical Science. I had the opportunity to work with a supervisor and complete a small research project. It gave me an insight into what a career in research would be like and made me think about the research areas I’m most interested in.
In addition to my studies, I’m a member of the student staff consultative committee (SSCC) which works with staff to improve the quality of the degree and address student concerns. I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to work with other students and staff to improve the degree.
In the future, I hope to have a career in research.
