I've always been interested in the construction industry. I began a carpentry apprenticeship, but decided that I wanted to build on the practical knowledge I'd gained and work towards becoming an industry professional.
I chose to study at RMIT because it’s highly regarded within the industry, and has connections with some of the largest construction companies in Melbourne.
The diploma takes a practical approach to learning about the building industry. It covers the essential foundations you need to work in the industry. I’ve gained lots of skills relevant to time and project management - which has also improved my personal organisation!
I really enjoyed learning about building thermal efficient structures - it was an interesting topic and one that was new to me. It’s becoming an important part of new building plans, and will be an important to the future of the building industry.
The highlight for me has been meeting like-minded people with similar aspirations. My dream job is to become a Project Manager for a large construction company.
