STUDENT
Madhuri Devi Dhawotal – Property
Madhuri studied a Master of Property to develop new areas of expertise and open up international opportunities for her career in valuation.

Why did you decide to study this degree?
I have been working in property since 2006 and wanted to up-skill to be able to work internationally. The Master of Property is a new program and RMIT is the only university offering it with the option of qualifying as a certified practising valuer.
I have always been interested in the construction industry. It has a broad spectrum of products across residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural property, and it’s a dynamic industry that involves many players including planners, valuers, architects, builders and service providers. For most people, owning property is a dream, and property developers help make this dream come true.
What has been the highlight of the degree so far?
Our lecturers are all drawn from the local property industry, so they have intimate knowledge of the industry that they pass on to students. Also the students come from all over the world to study at RMIT, and they share stories about how things are in their own countries, so it’s an enriching experience for everyone in class.
How will RMIT prepare you for a career in the built environment?
RMIT is driven by innovation. Trends in construction vary as dictated by market demand, policy changes and economy, and each era has its own developments in architecture and materials. The Master of Property looks into this aspect of development and the rationale behind it, which prepares students for a future career in property and construction.
If you’re interested in property development or valuation, be prepared to enter a challenging and competitive industry where change is a constant.
