For Tass Grigoriou studying information systems gave him the opportunity to gain international experience for a global industry.
The Information Systems (Applied) degree allowed me to mix my passion for IT with knowledge about how to apply this to business environments.
Tass says he chose to study at RMIT because he wanted the chance to spend a year working in the field before graduating and to study abroad. During his bachelor degree he was able to travel to France, Thailand, China and Hong Kong as part of his program, experiencing many different cultures.
“The Information Systems (Applied) degree allowed me to mix my passion for IT with knowledge about how to apply this to business environments that increasingly rely on technology. The program teaches you how the two fields interact and allows you to choose which aspects you want to focus on.” Tass narrowed that focus by completing an honours year, giving him a platform for further research.
“During the Bachelor of Business (Honours) I worked with executives in industry, using cutting edge technology before public release, represented RMIT at industry events, and extended my mentoring skills. The year was year intensely challenging, but highly rewarding.”
During his time at university, Tass has volunteered as an academic mentor through the SLAMs program, helping new and future students. He says he will measure the success of his career by whether it is fulfilling and by how well he utilises the skills he’s developed at RMIT to tackle challenges, motivate those around him and enhance the business he works with.
“I appreciated and valued the support I received from tutors and supervisors – they made my studies so enjoyable. After I finished my bachelor degree, I realised I could continue those relationships and build new ones. By taking on an Honours degree and now my Master of Business by Research I have been able to work with some amazing people, developing and exchanging ideas and building friendships that will last well beyond my graduation.”
