Sue walked away from a successful career in corporate marketing to pursue her interest in writing. She took a risk and enrolled in the Diploma of Professional Writing and Editing.
I’ve always enjoyed writing, and after many years in the corporate marketing world, I took a chance, quit and walked into the vast unknown.
“I knew I wanted my next career to revolve around writing, and after hearing about the reputation of the writing and editing program at RMIT, I decided to enrol.
“My experience so far has been amazing- the tutors and lecturers are not only great teachers, but they are also experts in their field.
“So far I’ve been able to work on various assignments and projects that incorporate different writing styles, such as: persuasive techniques, persuasive speech, writing for the web and analytical critiques. This program has taught me how to build my own portfolio and how to write for a multitude of platforms.
“The work we have done has been extremely practical, and the skills that I have learnt are easily transferred to the workplace. When I graduate, I’d love to work as a freelance writer that incorporates a variety of fields into my work such as travel, technology, food – anything really!
“For anyone considering studying in this area, do it! Even if you don’t want a career specifically in writing, the skills you learn will hold you in good stead for virtually any career choice."
