STUDENT
Olivia Chong – Education Support
Olivia discovered her passion for education after years of babysitting and looking after her younger siblings.
I chose to enrol into the Certificate IV in Education Support, because it was offered as a pathway into the Bachelor of Education. I knew working with children was something that I enjoyed, so I decided to pursue a career in this industry.
There is nothing more rewarding than having a student’s attitude change and grow as a result of your encouragement and support.
I get the most enjoyment out of attending placements and putting all the theory I’ve learnt into practice. Having the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life and share in a student’s success are what motivate me to continue teaching as a career.
I’ve found that the tutors and lecturers at RMIT all have a wealth of knowledge and skills to draw from. The university also offers a wide range of support services that help students struggling with coursework and issues in their personal lives.
Completing this certificate has opened up so many doors, both career and study wise. Not only have I secured a position at a secondary school as an emergency support teacher, but I’ve also been given a new approach to how I apply my knowledge to everyday situations. I really feel like that I’ve gained the necessary skills to find employment in a school, and I have strengthened the desire to succeed through helping others.
Education is such an exciting and rewarding field to be a part of. To those interested in working in this field, take the next step! Look into courses and go to information sessions so you enrol in something that is suitable for you.
Right now, I’m really enjoying my position working as an emergency support teacher, but beyond that I am looking to continue my study in the field of education. I hope to one day be part of making education relevant, accessible and enjoyable for all students.
