Taylah is studying Primary Education because she says teaching is the most rewarding profession there is.
RMIT prepares its students for a career in teaching by placing great emphasis on classroom placements. The support we’re given as students is incredibly helpful and reassuring. We are taught things that are relevant to our careers and given room to become the teachers we want to become.
I aspire to a career as a classroom teacher, positively influencing my students and creating a fun and safe learning environment for all. I’m also looking forward to welcoming student teachers into my own class one day so that I can help them in the same way I’ve been supported by my mentors.
A good teacher is someone who is open-minded, and has a lot of care and a lot of determination. It’s important to be persistent and patient, as teaching can be a pretty stressful job, but with persistence and patience each day will be priceless as you make change in children’s lives.
Teamwork is also very important – being a team player is a quality highly valued by employers. Through making friends on campus, connections with great lecturers and teachers, and networks with people I’ve met on placement, learning as part of a team environment has been the highlight of the degree and has helped make the experience a lot less stressful.
Your attitude toward the degree determines your outcome. If you adopt a positive mindset and believe in yourself you will achieve great results.
Teaching is a very rewarding career. Through my life I’ve had many outstanding teachers, and I strive to make a difference in children’s lives just as my teachers did in mine.
