If you enjoy always learning new things, want to help improve current technology and have an analytical mind, then engineering is for you.
I have always enjoyed mathematics and have been fascinated with learning how things work. This led me to study electrical engineering.
I decided to study at RMIT as the University provides both theory and hands on experience, which is very important for learning in the engineering field.
My final year (Design 4) project was a highlight as we got to design a product from scratch, but based on previous designs. Actually getting the product to a stage where it is working is a fantastic experience and a huge achievement.
Another highlight was undertaking a work placement at the engineering firm, WorleyParsons, as an undergraduate engineer. I was fortunate to participate in various projects that utilised drafting skills and I was also exposed to different systems such as SCADA and ladder logic. I feel this experience immensely benefited me as being exposed to different projects gives a realistic insight of how what is being learnt at university applies in a professional work environment.
I currently work as a Graduate Design/Electrical Engineering at UGL, an engineering and property services company. My role involves helping design a variety of circuit plans in the signalling field while working in a team environment. I have also been able to visit the site and help test and see how everything works in the field.
In the future I would like to keep learning and developing my newfound skills and getting involved in a variety of future projects that help improve the way things work.
