David Purser has combined international travel with industry work experience as part of his double degree in aerospace engineering and business management.
Bachelor of Engineering (Aerospace Engineering) (Honours)/Bachelor of Business (Management)
Choosing to study the aerospace engineering double degree was the best choice that I have ever made.
I always enjoyed building model rockets and was captivated by the idea of designing real space systems. When I learned about RMIT’s double degree in aerospace engineering and business management, my mind was made up.
Aerospace engineering at RMIT has a stellar reputation. It’s also internationally accredited, which was important to me because I’ve always intended to travel and work overseas.
As part of my degree I spent seven months working with Airbus Defence and Space. This was an incredible experience - I got to live abroad while gaining industry experience. From day one I felt like a real engineer and was given responsibilities within military projects.
I’ll never forget walking into the hangar of the Eurofighter Typhoon for the first time. I was granted security clearance to inspect the aircraft and take measurements. It was awe-inspiring to know that I was being trusted with this $100 million dollar piece of equipment.
Eventually I hope to hold a management position, so I knew that the double degree with business management would equip me with the knowledge and skills to make my dream a reality.
I’m aiming to work in the military sector and hope to be in charge of projects relating to fighter jets and other defence systems. My dream job would be working in upper level management for a multinational aerospace company.
