Dinesh Nijhawan decided to study environmental engineering to help improve the world's drinking water problem. He chose RMIT because of the combination of theory with practical knowledge.
Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental Engineering) (Honours)
RMIT University has an awesome combination of theory and practical knowledge. It is the best university to be at to get you ready for work.
I am passionate about our environment and believe we can eliminate health problems caused by poor drinking water quality around the world.

The lecturers are simply incredible. They find ways to incorporate practical knowledge where possible alongside theoretical knowledge. They don’t only focus on what you can do but also highlight any limitations you might come across when you are working because the working environment is very different to a university setting.
The highlight of my studies has been being able to meet so many people who are passionate about the same thing as me. It’s been incredibly motivating and encouraging.
My favourite course so far has been Pollution Control. This subject gave me a broader understanding of environmental problems and how theory can be used to address those problems.
I am part of the Environmental Engineering Students Association, which has events running through the year. I’m also part of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience, a not-for-profit organisation where I have made new friends from all over the world who come to Australia to do internships.
My dream job would be to work for an organisation to help improve environmental quality in countries where people are ill due to lack of clean air and water.
